Frequently Asked Questions

It's completely normal to have questions before starting therapy, especially if this is your first time reaching out. I've gathered the questions I hear most often below. If you don't find what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to reach out directly. I'm happy to answer anything that might help you feel more comfortable taking this step.

Getting Started Questions

  • How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If something in your life feels stuck, heavy, or confusing, therapy can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from support. Many of my clients come because they're exhausted, questioning who they are, or navigating a transition they didn't expect. If you're wondering whether therapy might help, that curiosity is often a sign it's worth exploring.

  • What happens in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and a bit about your history. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable. There's no pressure to have everything figured out. It's also your chance to ask questions and see if working together feels right.

  • How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule a free 15-minute consultation through the link on my website. During that call, we'll talk briefly about what you're experiencing and determine if we're a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we'll schedule your first full session from there.

  • What should I prepare before my first session?

Nothing. You don't need to organize your thoughts, prepare a summary, or know exactly what you want to work on. Just show up as you are. We'll figure out the rest together.

  • How long are sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to go deep while also leaving space for you to transition back into your day.

  • How often do people come to therapy?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and maintain connection between our work. As you progress, we can adjust frequency based on what you need. Some clients eventually move to biweekly sessions as they feel more stable.

  • Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. All sessions are conducted virtually via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. This allows me to serve women throughout Indiana regardless of location. Virtual therapy offers flexibility and accessibility while maintaining the depth and effectiveness of in-person work.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are subject to the full session fee. I understand that life happens, and I'm always willing to discuss individual circumstances.

  • Where are you located?

I provide virtual therapy only, so there's no physical office to visit. This means you can attend sessions from wherever you're most comfortable, anywhere in Indiana.

  • What are your fees?

You can find detailed information about session fees on my Fees & Insurance page. I'm committed to transparency about costs and am happy to discuss any questions during our consultation.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Roots to Rise Counseling is a private pay practice and does not accept or bill insurance. The practice is considered an out of network provider for all plans.

Superbills are available upon request and can be submitted to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, based on your plan’s out of network benefits. Reimbursement is determined by your insurer and is not guaranteed.

Roots to Rise Counseling does not communicate with insurance companies, submit claims, manage payments, or send records to insurers. Clients are responsible for full payment at the time of service and should plan for therapy without relying on insurance reimbursement.

Medical records can be provided directly to the client upon request.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is collected at the time of each session.

  • How long does therapy take?

There's no standard answer. Some clients find what they need in a few months; others benefit from longer-term support. It depends on what you're working through and what feels right for you. We'll check in regularly about how the work is going and adjust as needed.

  • What approach do you use?

I use an integrative approach, drawing from multiple evidence-based modalities tailored to your specific needs. My work addresses both practical skill-building and deeper exploration of patterns and identity. What matters most is that you feel seen, supported, and understood.

  • Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy stays between us, with a few legal exceptions: if there's risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I'll explain confidentiality fully during our first session.

  • What if I don't know what to talk about?

That's okay. You don't need to arrive with an agenda. sometimes silence can bring the most healing. I'll guide us if you feel stuck, and silence is always welcome too.
